Transvaginal Sonography (TVS) is an ultrasound test to diagnose the problems of the reproductive system in women. Most of the ultrasound studies are done `per abdomen'. In ultrasound test, the radiologist uses a special probe which is put on the abdomen or any other part of the body which is to be scanned and images from inside the body are seen on the LED screen. On the basis of these images, the radiologist will diagnose the disease. In TVS Ultrasound a thin and long probe is inserted into the vagina of the patient. This probe is used to diagnose the diseases of cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries. Other organs of the body cannot be scanned through TVS Ultrasound. However TVS ultrasound gives better images of the reproductive system as compared to the abdominal probe. However most of the female patients would prefer to get the test done through a female radiologist.
Transvaginal Ultrasound is much better than abdominal ultrasound for diagnosing Cervix Cancer, Uterine Cancer, Uterine Fibroids, Fallopian tubes blockages, Ovarian Cysts and Ovarian Cancer. Since the probe goes much closer to the organ which needs to be scanned, the images are much more clear in TVS ultrasound than Abdominal Ultrasound. This is more applicable for women who are fatty and have abdominal fat. Even in cases of early pregnancy or for doing Level 2 Scan in pregnancy, TVS is much better than Abdominal Ultrasound. Patients who are suffering from fertility issues are also better served by doing TVS Ultrasound to find out the causes of infertility. 3D TVS Probe has revolutionized the field of ultrasound and cancer detection in women.
The cost of TVS Ultrasound is in the range of Rs. 1500 - 2000 for different studies. Women are better diagnosed when whole abdomen ultrasound is done in conjunction with TVS Ultrasound. The cost of 3D TVS Ultrasound is in the range of Rs. 2000 - 2500. Almost all of our centres have the presence of female radiologist for doing TVS Ultrasound. However prior appointment needs to be taken so that availability of Female Radiologist can be ensured for doing TVS Ultrasound. The probe is covered with a soft gel which makes the insertion of the probe in the vagina quite painless. We have multiple centres in the NCR Region and you can get appointment at any of our centres by calling on the numbers +91-8800188334 / 8800188335 / 8800188336.
